Tournaments& Houses

Physical development is one of our six structural pillars, and it is not an afterthought. Every MPIS student trains, competes and belongs to a house.

The house system

Placed on admission, yours for life

The houses are designed to support healthy competition. Every student is placed in a house on admission and stays there for their whole MPIS career.

Points are earned across sport, academics, debate, punctuality and conduct — so the child who never wins a race can still win points for the house, and usually does. The House Cup is presented on Speech and Prize-Giving Day.

That breadth is deliberate. A house system built on athletics alone rewards a handful of children; one built on conduct and punctuality rewards everybody who turns up and tries.

Points are earned for

  • Sport — heats, finals and league fixtures
  • Academics — results and improvement
  • Debate and the literary competitions
  • Punctuality across the term
  • Conduct, in and out of class

The competition year

Two fixtures anchor it.

Inter-House Athletics & Novelty Games

Track and field heats run through the term, culminating in the full Inter-House Sports Festival: march past, finals, relays, the parents’ races and the trophy presentation.

Train seriously

Our five academies

Beyond inter-house competition, MPIS runs specialist academies for students who want to train seriously under qualified coaches. Sessions run after school on scheduled days. Selection is by trial each September, and any student may trial.

How competition grows with the child

From everybody-gets-a-medal to refereeing the juniors.

Select a stage.

Early Years

Movement, balance and coordination sessions, plus the Fun Sports Day — sack races, egg-and-spoon, obstacle courses and the parents’ race. Everyone finishes, everyone gets a medal.

Lower Primary

House novelty games, short sprints, relays and introductory ball skills. The focus is participation, and learning to lose well.

Upper Primary

First competitive house teams, athletics heats, and academy trials open from Primary 4.

Junior Secondary

Full house leagues, academy squads, and the first inter-school representation.

Senior Secondary

Senior leagues, state-level competition, and leadership roles — house captains, team captains, sports prefects and student officials who referee and manage the junior fixtures.
