School of Discipleship
In the month of May our School of Discipleship continues to nurture a deeper love for God through consistent Bible reading and intentional spiritual growth. Students are guided to study and understand God’s Word, apply its teachings in daily life, and build a stronger personal relationship with Him.
Through prayer, reflection and shared learning, the programme encourages discipline, character development and a Christ-centred lifestyle. It remains a transformative journey, equipping individuals to grow in faith and live purposefully.
Brain Teasers
Brain teasers are puzzles or questions designed to challenge the way pupils think. At Maryland Pre-School, learning goes beyond the classroom. Unlike regular questions that often have straightforward answers, brain teasers require creativity, logic and careful observation.
Regular participation makes learning more engaging and enjoyable while enhancing important cognitive skills. Pupils are encouraged to embrace these challenges as an opportunity to sharpen their minds and expand their thinking abilities.
Memory Skills
This month we continued our Memory Skill Challenge to boost students’ thinking and remembrance.
How it works. Students flip cards and try to remember where matching pairs are located.
Why it matters. The challenge builds quick thinking and focus, strengthens neural pathways and improves attention, which is essential for forming memories. It trains working memory — the mental scratchpad used to hold and manipulate information — and encourages memory strategies such as chunking, visualisation and association.
Pre-School Farm Exploration
The recent farm exploration provided an exciting hands-on learning experience for our pre-school pupils. The children had the opportunity to observe various plants and learn the importance of agriculture in daily life.
Through guided activities and interactive sessions they discovered where their food comes from and developed a deeper appreciation for nature and hard work. It was a fun, educational outing that enriched their knowledge beyond the classroom and inspired curiosity about the world around them.
Advanced ICT Training
Through our targeted development and skill-building programmes we are dedicated to identifying and fostering each child’s individual abilities and creativity. Talent development helps children grow their self-esteem, inventiveness and useful life skills outside the classroom.
In our Advanced ICT training programme, students are taught the foundations of Microsoft Excel, which increases their competence and confidence for both professional and academic work, alongside the significance of professionalism, originality and personal presentation. These experiences encourage our students to pursue their passions and get ready for opportunities in the creative and professional spheres.
Itak Campus — SSCE examinations and SS2 manifestos
SSCE examination, 14 May. The Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for the 2025/2026 academic session began on Thursday. The commencement marked a significant milestone for final-year students, who have spent months preparing through intensive studies, revision classes and mock examinations. The atmosphere around the examination hall was calm and organised as students arrived early and followed all examination guidelines.
SS2 manifestos, 19 May. Secondary School Two presented their manifestos to fellow students and staff ahead of the school elections, in the assembly hall. Candidates outlined plans for improving academic performance, promoting discipline, enhancing student welfare and encouraging participation in extracurricular activities, and each explained how they intended to achieve their goals if elected.
The financial management of students
Presented by Victoria Effiong. Why is budgeting important?
This month Miss Effiong taught students and staff that financial management is the process of planning, controlling and using money wisely in order to meet needs and achieve goals, involving budgeting, saving and careful spending.
She explained that financial budgeting prevents students from running into debt and helps them manage pocket money wisely. It prevents overspending, keeps track of expenses, sets a spending limit and saves money for important needs.
Why manage money wisely? It prevents unnecessary spending, encourages savings, reduces financial stress, promotes responsibility and prepares students for emergencies.
